Curator's Comments:
Mike Shafter – His tower “The Way to Be” strikes me as such
a masculine work, tall strong and heroic. And although he doesn’t place a great
deal of emphasis on process, I was fascinated to see how this piece was put
together. Each two wood sections carefully arranged on top of two others in
a prearranged order from bottom to top. There are no attachments. The piece
holds together by its own weight. I liked his green message – using old
lumber and than painting all pieces green. How appropriate for Earth Day!
