ArtSpeak: Talks, Workshops, Classes, Seminars. . . .

Distinct bodies of information have coalesced over the years into a few talks in which I share my observations and experiences in the form of slide presentations. I generally speak on one of several subjects orienting interactive discussions that address educational or entertaining issues. Subject matter is tailored to the age range and experience levels of participants, particularly when presented to student groups. Above, students complete portraits at a workshop taught with curator, printmaker, painter, Bobby Donovan at a Leadership Greater Washington Conference in Washington, DC in 2004.

Finding Your Art Voice

A survey of techniques and methods for beginning artists. A look at over 200 creations, many from my own studios, from foibles and failures to soaring successes. Sculpture, paintings, drawings, collage, prints, design and decorative accessories and doodads intended to stimulate the student's imagination and plant seeds of possible future directions. Emphasis is on methods and materials as well as format and style considerations. Especially appropriate for beginning art classes.

Art for New Artists

Considerations for anyone just getting interested in art, especially those thinking about taking art classes, studying art, becoming an artist or looking into a career or a second career in art. Focus is on the wide range of activities that creative and aesthetically inclined individuals find rewarding. A key feature of this talk involves hearing from "outside" guest speakers, artists of various orientations from the Baltimore Washington , DC area who will describe their work and say what they do, how they got started and what they like and dislike about their day to day activities.

1000-Word Pictures

Practical considerations for advanced artists. For artists with established goals and directions. Personal and business concerns, pros and cons of advertising, use of logos and identities, promotion and marketing strategies,  design of brochures flyers and graphics, preparation of biographies and records of achievement, photographing your work, advantages of being organized and relations with the press and media. Includes a serious look at  setting goals and ways to maintain a healthy state of mind in which to work and be creative.

Tangents

A fast paced review of my own work. Emphasis on what all is involved in being a full-time artist. What artists do. What is expected of artists and what they should expect to get out of the world around them. There are no formulas and no guarantees but there are rewards. Getting started, mistakes artists make, mistakes I have made, A fascinating, inspiring and free-wheeling review and commentary on an extensive collection of two- and three-dimensional works embracing a wide variety of techniques, styles formats and methodologies.
