Painting Lines—Thin Networks, and Later, Slashing Fields and Swirls. . .
I started painting in the 70s under the influence of minimalism, carefully applying wax crayon onto unprimed canvas in a series called Fabric Works. Inspired in part by the work of Agnes Martin, they were large yet soft, dense and light. The move to bold gestural abstraction took many years and was difficult but the Line Paintings emerged around 2001. I want my paintings to look like something you have never seen before but remind you of something you have.
